KILMARDINNY STRIP/WESTPARK Residents will be aware that there is a massive housing development planned for the area south of Milngavie Road, extending from Reid Avenue to Auchenhowie Road, Milngavie. The proposal is for the erection of some 550 houses, the demolition and rebuilding of the Allander Sports Centre together with council offices and the relocation of the West of Scotland Rugby Club. |
We have just heard that this meeting will be held on 23rd of
October at 5:30 pm, in Bearsden Academy, Morven Road. LAND AT MOSSHEAD ROAD |
The ‘planning gain’ or sweetener for residents is the proposed new rail halt and park and ride station at the Allander. However, it should be noted that there is no guarantee that this facility will ever materialise. |
The wooded area adjacent to the electricity sub station, directly to the rear of houses on Mosshead Road and Rowan Drive and accessed from the lane that runs from Joe’s shop to the Bumbrae, has been advertised for sale. |
Information gleaned from the planning documents show that there is no proposal of a new Allander station being served by trains within the life of the next franchise. Also, trains could not stop at an Allander rail halt without a major re-working of the timetable along the entire route, which is already severely constrained. |
This site was subject to a previous planning application for erection of a Residential dwelling and the application was refused. Residents residing close to this ground should be aware that there may be further planning applications made in respect of this ground. KILMARDINNY CRES / KILMARDINNY AVE |
East Dunbartonshire Council has agreed that there will be a public hearing on the proposals, with a date yet to be arranged. The Community Councils and all residents’ associations in the area will be present at the hearing to put forward objections to the development. |
The Association has been informed that there may be plans afoot to build flats in the garden grounds of White Lodge i.e. the wooded garden area bordering Kilmardinny Cresc/Ave. Two new houses were built on either side of White Lodge several years ago. However, part of the remaining garden area fronting Kilmardinny Avenue is under threat of development. This area has many mature trees and is also home to badgers and bats. Residents who would be affected by the erection ofa flatted development at this locus should keep watch for planning application notihcation in the local paper. |
As many residents as possible should come along to the public hearing to express their concerns on the density of housing within this development and the knock on effect upon our roads and infrastructure. |

The residents’ annual subscriptions are now due, and committee members will either have already called at your home or be in the process of doing so. The membership fee has been increased by £1 to £5 per household to enable Burnbrae Residents’ Association to increase funds in the event that we may need to employ professional assistance to aid the fight against the proposed overdevelopment of the area. There are several local organisations and Community Councils objecting to the Kilmardinny Strip development proposals, and it is our intention to approach these groups to propose that we join forces and share professional employment costs as these costs can be quite prohibitive. |

We regret to announce that the planned senior citizens’ outing to the pantomime has been cancelled this year. The Kings theatre changed the time of the matinee performance to 12 noon to accommodate school parties and their transport arrangements. This in turn has affected our transport arrangements with coach hire companies unable to accommodate us. In addition the earlier timing has proved unsuitable for many of our pantomime supporters. The Association intends to arrange an alternative senior citizens outing early in the New Year. AUTUMN LEAVES Now that Autumn is here it is tempting to burn garden rubbish and other materials. In the interests of keeping Burnbrae a smoke-free zone and showing respect to each other, please refrain from burning any rubbish in your gardens. Please recycle ALL your garden waste in the green bins provided by the council, or compost it. |
VANDALISM Kilmardinny House has suffered a great deal of vandalism over the past year with windows broken, roof tiles removed and smashed and the caretaker’s car severely damaged. Youths are arriving by car and congregating in the clearing beyond the garage within the grounds, where they drink alcohol and smoke illegal substances leaving the debris behind. Whilst there they frequently scream and shout causing general nuisance and disturbance to the residents around the grounds. Kilmardinny House has two long-term caretakers, Bobby and Eleanor. When finishing a back shift they have to exit via the rear entrance door in order to activate the alarm. Both have been intimated by these youths. The Residents’ Association has advised both Strathclyde Police and East Dunbartonshire Council that something will have to be done to prevent an escalation of this problem in this area. If you live in the area and see or hear a disturbance in the grounds, please assist by telephoning Strathclyde Police. |
