KILMARDINNY CORRIDOR DEVELOPMENT |
ROAD & TRAFFIC ISSUES | |
|
Residents should be aware
that the developers, Cala & Stewart Milne Homes, have lodged an appeal
against East Dunbartonshire Council’s decision to refuse them planning
permission to proceed with the development of the Kilmardinny Corridor - the
area stretching from Auchenhowie Road in Milngavie to Hillfoot in Bearsden. Any appeal would likely result in a public enquiry and all individuals and groups who objected to the proposals would be invited to take part by the Reporter appointed by the Scottish Executive. We will continue to advise residents as this issue progresses.
ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AT EDC has cleared the overgrown shrubs at the back entrance to Kilmardinny House and vacate the building without fear of intimidation. There is also now a security lock on the front entrance allowing the caretaker to control building access. Work will begin soon on renovating the main gates which will be closed in the evenings and at weekends.

ALLANDER LEISURE CENTRE |
|
Great progress made by Kilmardinny PALS |
|
East Dunbartonshire Council has commissioned an independent condition report on the fabric and structure of the Allander Leisure Centre. Councillor Amanda Stewart has advised the Residents’ Association that the Allander Leisure Centre requires over £2 million investment to ensure that the building remains operational and watertight. The condition survey, the first since 1999, may also determine the future of the centre. Councillors have assured the Residents’ Association that there will be public consultation on any plans that would affect the future of the Allander Leisure Centre. HOSPITAL BUS SERVICE Dunbartonshire Council in partnership with SPT is piloting an Evening Visitor Transport Service for residents of East Dunbartonshire. The service operates from 6pm until 10pm and will collect you from your home, or as near to it as possible, take you to you nearest hospital and home again. Priority will be given to older people (over 60), and those with a disability or in receipt of benefits. |
Kilmardinny PALS, the group
set up by local residents to improve the loch area and play park, have been
working hard securing funds for their project. The two Ceilidhs held last
over year raised over £3000 and there were various activity days in and
around the park. With the
funds raised so far, PALS have asked EDC to
commence Phase I of the play
park plan, which was shown at the two public meetings last February. The
Council are currently sourcing and purchasing play equipment and hope to
begin construction work in early summer. Immediate and local residents will
be notified once exact dates are finalised. Woodland Management and other
works around the Loch will re-commence shortly,
continuing with the
Management Plan, funded
by the Woodlands In and Around Towns scheme. This year’s Mad March Ball Ceilidh/Disco will be held on Saturday 29th March in Bearsden Burgh Hall. Tickets will be on sale from mid February from Committee Members. For further details on this and other events, please visit the website at www.kilmardinnypals.co.uk |

For information contact 0845 128 4027 between 2pm to 4pm, Monday to Thursdays, and 2pm to 3:30pm on Fridays SENIOR CITIZENS’ OUTING It was disappointing that the annual senior trip to the matinee performance of the Christmas pantomime was cancelled. This was due to a change of performance time, and the difficulty in obtaining coach travel as a result. To make up for this disappointment we would like to offer an alternative outing to our senior citizens and some ideas suggested so far include a Luncheon or Daffodil Tea, or afternoon tea in Mugdock Park followed by a Film show. Senior citizens with ideas for an outing should contact any member of the committee. All ideas and suggestions will be discussed and taken forward for action at a future Residents’ Association meeting. |
AGM
APPEAL & NOTIFICATION The Residents Association’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 22nd April 2008 in Kilmardinny House at 7.30pm. This year our President, Flora Frame, is stepping down, following 4 years of leadership, and the Association is looking for a new President. We also urgently need more residents to volunteer as Committee members. Duties include attendance at committee meeting and delivery of three newsletters per annum to a designated patch usually about 40 houses. It is particularly important that the Residents Association continues as an active group given the impact that major planning applications, planned for the area, may have on our day-to-day lives. Remember, without your support, the Residents’ Association can not continue. See you in April! |
