KILMARDINNY CORRIDOR

DEVELOPMENT

  ROAD & TRAFFIC ISSUES
Residents should be aware that the developers, Cala & Stewart Milne Homes, have lodged an appeal against East Dunbartonshire Council’s decision to refuse them planning permission to proceed with the development of the Kilmardinny Corridor - the area stretching from Auchenhowie Road in Milngavie to Hillfoot in Bearsden.

Any appeal would likely result in a public enquiry and all individuals and groups who objected to the proposals would be invited to take part by the Reporter appointed by the Scottish Executive. We will continue to advise residents as this issue progresses.

ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR AT
KILMARDINNY HOUSE

We had a good response from both East Dunbartonshire council and the Police to our letters regarding anti-social behaviour within the grounds of Kilmardinny House.

EDC has cleared the overgrown shrubs at the back entrance to Kilmardinny House and vacate the building without fear of intimidation. There is also now a security lock on the front entrance allowing the caretaker to control building access. Work will begin soon on renovating the main gates which will be closed in the evenings and at weekends.

SOCIAL EVENTS - CElLIDH
A successful ceilidh was held in November with over 80 residents enjoying an evening of dancing and reels as well as a supper supplied by the award winning Baljaffray Chip Shop. A raffle in aid of Kilmardinny PALS raised £283. Burnbrae Residents’ Association donated the total proceeds of the evening, some £519, together with a donation of £500 to Kilmardinny PALS to assist with the purchase of new play equipment for the area

The Association has been in touch with Council roads Department regarding several problem areas listed below.

Milngavie Road : Box Junction

After many requests we now have a yellow half box junction painted at the bottom of Mosshead Rd & Milngavie Rd to assist residents making a right turn onto Milngavie Rd.

Kilmardinny Crescent : Sight Lines
East Dunbartonshire Roads’ Department have been contacted about the difficulty in exiting Kilmardinny Crescent (West) due to poor sight lines. Following a meeting with Councillor Cummings, Traffic Police and Roads’ Department it was agreed that consideration would be given to hard pruning of the shrubs on the boundary of Kilmardinny House where the Crescent meets the Avenue. “Concealed exit” and “slow” signage has been erected on the approach to this junction.

On the east side exit of the Crescent it has been agreed that the Roads’ Department will repaint the white lines on the slip road thus reverting the slip road to the original two way traffic flow.

Burnbrae Avenue/Mosshead Rd Junction
Indiscriminate parking continues to cause problems and resulted in a two-car accident at the beginning of December. We continue to consult with the Roads’ dept on ways of minimising the problems at this junction and will advise residents of any proposals going forward.

Oak Ave
Scottish Water has investigated the water leakage at Oak Avenue and advised that the source of the leak is not within their area of responsibility. East Dunbartonshire Council have been contacted to request they trace the source and carry out the necessary repairs.

ALLANDER LEISURE CENTRE

Great progress made by Kilmardinny PALS

East Dunbartonshire Council has commissioned an independent condition report on the fabric and structure of the Allander Leisure Centre. Councillor Amanda Stewart has advised the Residents’ Association that the Allander Leisure Centre requires over £2 million investment to ensure that the building remains operational and watertight. The condition survey, the first since 1999, may also  determine the future of the centre. Councillors have assured the Residents’ Association that there will be public consultation on any plans that would affect the future of the Allander Leisure Centre.

HOSPITAL BUS SERVICE

Dunbartonshire Council in partnership with SPT is piloting an Evening Visitor Transport Service for residents of East Dunbartonshire. The service operates from 6pm until 10pm and will collect you from your home, or as near to it as possible, take you to you nearest hospital and home again. Priority will be given to older people (over 60), and those with a disability or in receipt  of benefits.

Kilmardinny PALS, the group set up by local residents to improve the loch area and play park, have been working hard securing funds for their project. The two Ceilidhs held last over year raised over £3000 and there were various activity days in and around the park. With the funds raised so far, PALS have asked EDC to commence Phase I of the play park plan, which was shown at the two public meetings last February. The Council are currently sourcing and purchasing play equipment and hope to begin construction work in early summer. Immediate and local residents will be notified once exact dates are finalised. Woodland Management and other works around the Loch will re-commence shortly, continuing with the Management Plan, funded by the Woodlands In and Around Towns scheme.

This year’s Mad March Ball Ceilidh/Disco will be held on Saturday 29th March in Bearsden Burgh Hall. Tickets will be on sale from mid February from Committee Members. For further details on this and other events, please visit the website at www.kilmardinnypals.co.uk

For information contact 0845 128 4027 between 2pm to 4pm, Monday to Thursdays, and 2pm to 3:30pm on Fridays

SENIOR CITIZENS’ OUTING

It was disappointing that the annual senior trip to the matinee performance of the Christmas pantomime was cancelled. This was due to a change of performance time, and the difficulty in obtaining coach travel as a result.

To make up for this disappointment we would like to offer an alternative outing to our senior citizens and some ideas suggested so far include a Luncheon or Daffodil Tea, or afternoon tea in Mugdock Park followed by a Film show. Senior citizens with ideas for an outing should contact any member of the committee. All ideas and suggestions will be discussed and taken forward for action at a future Residents’ Association meeting.

  AGM APPEAL & NOTIFICATION

The Residents Association’s Annual General Meeting will be held on Tuesday 22nd April 2008 in Kilmardinny House at 7.30pm.

This year our President, Flora Frame, is stepping down, following 4 years of leadership, and the Association is looking for a new President. We also urgently need more residents to volunteer as Committee members. Duties include attendance at committee meeting and delivery of three newsletters per annum to a designated patch usually about 40 houses.

It is particularly important that the Residents Association continues as an active group given the impact that major planning applications, planned for the area, may have on our day-to-day lives.

Remember, without your support, the Residents’ Association can not continue. See you in April!
