Our recent AGM
The 66th AGM of Burnbrae RA was held on 22nd April 2009 in
Kilmardinny House . Unfortunately our invited speakers from Community Policing and EDC were unable to attend, but we managed to fill the time somehow. This was always going to be a lively meeting, with the bulk of the time being given over to the Reporter’s decision on Lower Kilmardinny / Westpark. The current state of play was eloquently described by Keith Small, chair of the K-Wag action group of which Burnbrae RA is a member. Our local councillors – all of whom were in attendance – were able to give us all more insight into what would happen next and, as they say, a lively discussion ensued! In discussion on social activity, it was suggested that a summer event aimed at families be considered. See later in this Newsletter for details of what we have planned for you! We bade farewell to 4 committee members who were demitting office, and welcomed 4 new volunteers. Office bearers elected for the next year are
Vice-President : Victor Budas
Treasurer : Jim Robertson
Secretary : Margaret Robertson |
Lower Kilmardinny /
Westpark Planning Appeal : the saga continues! You may recall that one of the areas of the Reporter’s decision that was causing most concern to K-WAG was what we considered the undue stress placed by her on the new wording regarding the area in the DRAFT local plan. It was felt that as this was a draft only, such stress was misplaced. At very short notice indeed, K-WAG were able to ensure representation at the Council meeting where the draft local plan was to be adopted, and have ensured that the wording regarding development of the area returns to the format which favours the community, rather than the suggested new wording which we felt favoured the developer. This now means that the Reporter’s decision was based in part on flawed reasoning and may well enable K-WAG and the council to progress with action in that regard. What form that action may take we can only wait and see!

Halley’s Garage Although planning was granted for a replacement retail space at Halley’s garage site, we understand this has now been overtaken by events. Halley’s have been granted the Ford dealership so will remain in place.
At the request of members, we have booked the barbecue area at Mugdock Park for Saturday 29th August from 12 – 4. We will provide fuel for and light the barbecues, but I’m afraid you must bring and cook your own food. The barbecue area is fairly close to toilet and other facilities, which is one of the reasons we chose there and not “our” field on Burnbrae Avenue!
Think about security If the warm weather continues, please think about security: open windows make easy entry points, or you may be in the garden and have left the door on the latch. |

Extra equipment
purchased At the request of members we have purchased another extendible tree-lopper. I’m reliably informed this really works best when 2 people use it, so bear that in mind if you want to borrow it! Full details of what we have available to borrow will be on the membership cards coming round soon.
