Lower Kilmardinny / Westpark Planning Appeal Update

"The appellants and the planning authority have proposed that they will endeavour to reach a final landing on the current negotiations during the course of January 2010.  A deadline of 5 February would be set by which the reporter is to receive either (i) confirmation that the detailed terms of a legal agreement have been agreed (allowing until the end of March for formal sign off of the principal agreement) or (ii) failing such agreement, submissions from the respective parties on the issue of conditions as an alternative mechanism to allow the grant of planning consent. The reporter has intimated that she is agreeable to this timetable."

The above is a quote from correspondence received by K-WAG from the Head of Administration Directorate for Planning and Environmental Appeals, EDC.

In her Notice of Intent, the reporter placed strong emphasis on what was at the time DRAFT wording of Schedule UC2C. The draft wording does NOT form part of the agreed Schedule UC2C which remains the key planning policy for the Kilmardinny-Westpark site.

K-WAG continues to press both EDC and the reporter to take recognition of this.

Break-in

There was a break-in on Hawthorn Avenue between Xmas and New Year. Access was via an open window.  Shut those windows!

Cabaret night

We are hosting a Cabaret Night in Milngavie Bowling Club on 27th February. There will be a singer and a comedian providing the entertainment, nibbles will be provided, raffle prizes, and of course the bar prices are nice and low! Non-Burnbrae-residents will also be very welcome!

The event is 8 pm for 8:30 pm start and tickets are £10 each.  Where else can you get a whole evening's entertainment for a tenner!

We need to know by February 10th how many people are going, so to ensure your place please send your contact details and a cheque for the full amount, payable to Burnbrae Residents' Association, to our Treasurer, Jim Robertson, 6 Rowan Drive, Bearsden, Glasgow, G61 3HQ.

Please note that the early deadline is because the Artistes booked will need notice of cancellation if we don't get the numbers.

Raffle prizes wanted

Here's the chance to do something useful with any unwanted Xmas presents! Contact any Committee Member and we'll take them off your hands for raffle prizes.

West of Scotland Rugby Ground Proposed Auchenhowie Site

WoSSite

A photograph (by John Edwards) of the proposed Auchenhowie site for WoS new rugby pitches. The photo was taken on 20th November 2009, and since WoS representatives stated that the area was liable to flood only once every 200 years, then I guess were safe until 2209. What a relief!

Residents Association Xmas Lunch, December 7th

This was cancelled due to lack of response. Only TWO residents had booked places.

Winter weather conditions

Well, at the time of writing, we are snow-free, and I for one am hoping that we stay that way.

 Skiing

I am neither particularly elderly nor particularly infirm, but was housebound from December 22nd until January 2nd due to the state of the pavements & roads  in the Burnbrae area. When I dug a path down my driveway on January 2nd (3 of solid ice, by the way!), it was only to discover that there was no grit/salt available in the box at the end of the road. I then slithered to the bus stop on Milngavie Road, almost falling 3 times even when walking on the road. When I got back later that evening everything had frozen over again and I had to climb my driveway on my hands and knees.

And yes, I WAS wearing sensible hill-walking boots at the time.

Of course, I immediately fired off an email to all our councillors, and this generated a response from EDC (received 07/01/10), which I have reproduced in part, below.

"Thank you for your email to Councillor Cumming which has been passed to me. I note the comments in your email and confirm that Roads crews have operated almost continually since the onset of the current period of adverse weather conditions, much of it on a 24/7 basis, to ensure roads and footpaths are free from snow and ice as far as is reasonably practicable.  Council policy for winter maintenance  focusses treatment in the first instance on main priority routes and these are treated on a regular basis whenever adverse conditions are forecast.  The Roads Service would normally then work their way into lower priority routes as conditions and resources permit. The current conditions however, with temperatures rarely rising above zero, ongoing showers and repeated freezing, have been such that we require to continually treat our priority routes (carriageway and footway) on an ongoing basis.  As such we have had little opportunity to allocate resources to lower category routes other than to refill grit bins and enable some degree of community self help.

Operatives have been replenishing grit bins in the East Dunbartonshire area over the past two days.  The Operatives are in the Bearsden area today carrying out gritting operations on the footways and will complete as many as they possible can.”

Did anyone see any gritted footways?  Pavements on Milngavie Rd – surely a priority route – were still completely impassable on January 2nd (hence my bus rather than rail travel – couldn’t get to the station!)

HAPPY NEW YEAR, EVERYONE!
