BURNBRAE RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION

Minutes of meeting held on Thursday 27th September 2007

in Milngavie Bowling Club.

ATTENDANCE

Margaret and Jim Robertson, Flora Frame, Mark Keddie, Janice Kennedy, Scott Kerr, Wilma McIntyre, Ian McGregor, Rosemary Manson, Victor Budas, Alison Ward, Derek Cunningham ( Roads ), Councillors Amanda Stewart and Duncan Cumming, Colin Taylor.

1     APOLOGIES

None.        

 

2     MINUTES OF LAST COMMITTEE MEETING

       Proposed – Wilma McIntyre

       Seconded – Rosemary Manson

 

3     MATTERS ARISING

       Ceilidh tickets are printed. Colin Taylor expects to sell about 60 - 70. Supper will be around 9.30.

       Rosemary will re - negotiate with Baljaffray chip shop.

 

4     CORRESPONDENCE

       Flora wrote to Police and Council re disturbances caused by youths at Kilmardinny House.

       Amanda Stewart stated that the Community Safety Officer should assess the situation. A        possible solution could be padlocking the gates.

 

5     DEREK CUNNINGHAM - ROADS’ DEPARTMENT

  1. Problems turning right at foot of Mosshead Road. No plans to alter this at the present time. Turn left and use other roundabout. Ian McGregor suggested box junction to stop traffic blocking exit when lights are red.
  2. Dangerous exit from Kilmardinny Crescent onto Kilmardinny Avenue. Council propose to move ‘Give Way’ sign and install ‘Slow’ signs. It was pointed out that this was done at the wrong exit. Flora suggested a mirror at the far exit.
  3. Junction at  Burnbrae Avenue and Mosshead Road. Various options are being looked at to alleviate the parking problems and speeding. Any change of access due to the sale land at the lane needs to be looked at. Currently there are no funds available for any of the above.
  4. Resurfacing. A risk based approach is used. Route priorities, traffic levels, speed and accident risk are taken into consideration when deciding which roads to resurface. A list of complaints is kept and repairs carried out  within the available budget. plans for repairs are available on the council web site.

 

6     SALE OF LAND AT MOSSHEAD RD./BURNBRAE

       Nothing to report.

 

7     KILMARDINNY STRIP DEVELOPMENT

       This is only an outline proposal at the moment. If this is passed then a detailed plan will be submitted and objections can be raised. The Roads’ department has plans to cope with the  increased volume of traffic if this development goes ahead. There are concerns about school places for the increased number of children. Also the demolition of the Allander Sports Centre before a new Sports Centre is built will result in no sports’ facilities for about 18 months.

       There is a meeting on Monday 8th October when it is expected the proposed rail halt at the Allander and associated parking will be raised.

 

8     TREASURER’S REPORT

        £4099 in bank.

 

9     SUBCRIPTIONS

       Subscriptions are coming in and have been received from 131 households (+ 1 late from last year). Replies to questionnaire indicate support for Burns’ supper and ceilidh.

 

10   PALS UPDATE

       £30,000 in funds. £10,000 from council needs to be used by April. £10,000 from landfill tax must be used by July. Basic drainage should be completed and some play equipment installed by spring.

 

11   AUTUMN NEWSLETTER

       Draft copy done and approved. Scott will do photocopying.

 

12   SOCIAL EVENTS

      Organization of ceilidh is well in hand.

      Pantomime is cancelled.

 

13   A.O.C.B.

       Nothing to report re property at 21 Hawthorn. The enforcement officer (Mr. Patey) should deal with this. A complaint about rubbish burning in the garden of 21 Mosshead Rd. has been raised.

       The hedges at Burnbrae House need to be pruned.
